SOS Beacon

EarthStation can be used anywhere there is an internet connection, including by isolated workers, overnight staff, travellers, remote communities and people waiting alone for help.

EarthStation is not an emergency service. In an immediate emergency, contact local emergency services whenever possible. An SOS Beacon is an additional way to ask the EarthStation community to notice you.

How to send an SOS Beacon

1
Begin your Beacon with SOS Place SOS at the very beginning so it is immediately visible.
2
Describe what you need Be factual, brief and clear. Include only information you are comfortable sharing publicly.
3
Transmit it to EarthStation Use “Transmit Beacon to EarthStation” so the room can see your message.
4
Remove SOS once resolved Edit your Beacon after the situation has ended so others know the signal is no longer active.

Example

SOS Waiting for roadside assistance in a remote area. I am safe for now but would appreciate someone checking in while I wait.

A transmitted SOS Beacon appears in EarthStation with an SOS marker so people understand that the message should be taken seriously.
